CHIBA and the road to Narita- Tokyo Disneyland, Edogawa, Shinagawa
Chiba (population 973 000) is a large city and suburb of Tokyo, and the capital of the Chiba prefecture (pop. 6.2 million). The name literally means "a thousand leaves". The city's Makuhari district has a skyline with many glass skyscrapers that reminds of an American city. The tallest building is the 49-storey glass scraper APA Hotel & Resort Tokyo Bay Makuhari (183m), built in 1995. Chiba Urban Monorail is the longest suspended monorail in the world. Chiba has an important port. Inage Beach is the longes artificial beach in Japan. The surroundings of Chiba, the Chiba prefecture (that borders Tokyo prefecture) is famous for its beautiful nature with waterfalls and forests. This page is about the place we passed by on the bus to Narita Airport, where we approached the plane back home to Scandinavia. Tokyo Disneyland. We passed by the first Disneyland outside the USA, briefly. It is situated in Urayasu in the Chiba prefecture, between Tokyo and Chiba city. It opened in 1983 and is with 16.6 million visitors a year (2017), the world's 3rd most visited theme park. Cinderella Castle is the icon of Tokyo Disneyland. The theme park includes four ttraditional lands: Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland; and 2 minilands: Critter Country and Mickey's Toontown. The Diamond and Flower is a 117m high ferris wheel in Kasai Rinkai Park next to Tokyo Disneyland. It was built in 2001 and is Japan's tallest ferris wheel. Shinagawa is a ward south of the central city, adjancent to Tokyo Bay. It is centered around the large Shinagawa Station. The busy road Daiichi-Keihin passes by the station and goes towards Minato ward. The bus towards Narita departed from the hotel where we stayed, Shinagawa Prince. This is Tokyo's largest hotel.
