West part of Benidorm
- Playa de Poniente (Poniente Beach), Avenida de la Armada Espanola, Avda. Rei Jaume I, Gran Hotel Bali, Intempo
Benidorm is divided into three parts, this is about the Westernmost part, to the West of the rock Cala Mal Pas.
The long and fine Playa de Levante (Levante Beach), that is the most popular among tourists, stretches to the East of the city centre, while Playa de Poniente (Poniente Beach), that is the most popular among locals, stretches to the West. Poiniente is more elegant the Levante and features curved terraces with benches along the narrow Avenida de la Armada Espanola that is parallel to the beach, a one-way road with a large red biking lane. It is only allowed to drive in 20km/h on some of the "avenues". In the West part you will find the two tallest buildings, both built in the 2000s:
Since 2002 you can find Europe's tallest hotel in Benidorm, Gran Hotel Bali. That is also is Benidorm's tallest building and Spain's 5th tallest (tallest building in Spain outside Madrid, 2016). Bali has 52 floors and is 210m to the top of the spire. There we stayed for one night, we had incredible views of all over the city from our room and balcony on the 25th floor! There is an outdoor observation deck on top, but it was unfortunately closed due to strong winds! There are also glass elevators on the exterior of the main section building, but they where only accessible for some guests. Gran Hotel Bali is situated in the West part of the city . Also in the West part of the city you find the incredible new residential skyscraper Intempo, built in 2014, with a golden glass facade, in a shape to resemble an M and 11, commemorating the Madrid terrorist attack on March 11th 2004. It is now Benidorm's 2nd tallest building, the tallest building if counting roof height (189m), and the tallest residential building in Spain. All architects, Perez Guerra and Olcina and Raduan, resigned because of many scandals and accidents during the construction.
Gran Hotel Bali and the much lower Hotel Torre Dorada are almost the only tall buildings completely illuminated after dark, the latter one frequently shifts colours in red, white, blue and violet. The last part of the gallery is from the North part, where we entered the city for the first time, on Avenida Europa.
