Tkalčićeva Street (Ulica Ivana Tkalčića)- Upper Town, Gradec, St Mary's Church, Curry Bowl, Marije Juric Zagorke Statue
On the border between the settlements Gradec and Kaptol in Upper Town, you find Zagreb's most famous pedestrian restaurant street, Tkalčićeva ulica. On this narrow, curved street you find ktichen from all over the world in beautiful historic buildings. It is quite narrow, and long, in the Northern end it is more residential in its character. Most buildings are very old, the 4-star Hotel Academica is a modern exception, as well as the Centar Kaptol mall. On the West part there are green hills. Along the street you find the lower part of the baroque St Mary's Church (Crkva Sv. Marija) and the famous statue of Marije Juric Zagorke, the first female journalist and author in Croatia. Many of the restaurants have Italian food and serve hamburgers and pizza, also Bosnian food like cevapcici and one Indian, but it is hard to find typical Croatian food. We tried a Sri Lankan restaurant, Curry Bowl, that was really good and also very popular. There are also many nightclubs on Tkalčićeva. During the pandemic masks were required to eat indoors as soon as you move, but with 27-30 degrees C it was more popular to eat outside, and nice to watch people pass by. |
