Wacken Open Air (W:O:A) is a summer open air festival, held every year for 3 days in July/August. The focus is metal music, and it has about 80 000 visitors a year from all around the world. The bands, about 70, are also from all around the world, some really famous with big concerts. They perform on 4 different stages. It has been held since 1990. There are several camping grounds surrounding the festival area. This page is about the concerts held on the festival.

DAY 1 (THURSDAY):

Deep Purple (GB). Really good performance. Not as stiff as I was afraid of considering their age.

Annihilator (CAN)

  Haggard (PL). Outstanding!

Soulless

Tristania

Tristania (N). Good, but strange to see them in sun and daylight. Also strange that all musicians were new since 99...except for two!   Neaema

Gojira (F)

Gojira (F). Extremely good, heavy innovative French extreme metal band.   Soilwork (S). Ok, but not more.

Motörhead

Motörhead

Motörhead (GB). Lemmy had to quit the show after just a few songs because of sickness...An ambulance showed up near the stage! But he has recovered.

  Soilwork

Meshuggah (S). Heavy as hell!

Amorphis (FIN) made the audience disappointed by starting with an aucoustic set. 5 songs! Many left...

Amorphis...finally the original (metal) concerts, but the sound was bad.

DAY 3 (SATURDAY):

Danzig (USA). Really great performance of "Evil Elvis", one the best. Cool that he invited a Misfits member for as many as 5 songs. The band also played Mother and other classics.

Trivium

Trivium (USA). Good relative new metal band on True metal stage.

Fear Factory (USA). Really cool and tight concert, but the clean vocals was not as good as the grunts.

  Fear Factory

Lamb of God (USA). Not as good as Pantera, but still good. We skipped the last part of the show because of heavy showers.

Candlemass (S). The Swedish doom masters had a new singer, and was probably my favourite among the concerts!

Alice Cooper (USA). We missed most of this really good show, unfortunately, because we just had to see Candlemass. But heard "Poison".

Nightwish (FIN). Their new singer is Floor Jansen from the Dutch band After Forever, almost as good as Tarja.

Nightwish with Floor

Nightwish

Nightwish (FIN). Good show as usual, with an amazing show with fireworks, light effects, guitar solos, good vocals etc, as the last big concert on the festival. The only downpart is that people were walking through the crowd back and forth, and that they played to less old songs.
