Old Town part 1
This is the heart of Utrecht, Binnenstad, where you find all old buildings, churches, multileveled canals and museums. And pedestrian streets with many modern chains stores. The medieval core is well preserved. It is dominated by the tall Dom tower, that stand next to the cathedral. The Muzeumkwartier is a part of the Old Town, as well as the significant Oudegracht canal.

The Dom church’s gothic tower Domtoren is 112m tall to the spire. It was completed in 1382 and is still the most prominent landmark in the city center, and the tallest building. It was destroyed in a hurricane in 1674, but was rebuilt. There is a replica of the Dom in Nagasaki, Japan.
There is a gate right through the Dom tower. It stands apart from the cathedral itself.

Pausdam is a tranquil square at the intersection of two canals. The Paushuiz (pope house, left) was intendend for the Pope Adrian VI.
