Yonge-Dundas Square- Yonge St, Dundas St, Eaton Centre, Hard Rock Café, Shops at AuraDundas Square, at the intersection of Dundas and Yonge in the heart of Toronto, is an ultramodern square with neon lights, ads, crowded restaurants, fountains, department stores, entertainment - the closest you come to Times Square in New York, or Shibuya in Tokyo. Especially after dark, this place look impressive with neon lights, huge billboards with TV screens, heavy traffic and surrounding skyscrapers. Hard Rock Café with its signicant neon guitar sign is situated here, we visited it once. Public events such as concerts and performances are often held here, even on common weekdays. Small fountains are placed on the ground of the square, part of a 24-hour play art installation. Yonge-Dundas Square was completed in 2002, as part of a revitalizing project, designed by Brown and Storey Architects. Here you find the main entrance to Eaton Centre, Toronto's leading shopping mall and most popular tourist attraction, with 235 stores and department stores like Nordstrom. Shops at Aura, an almost abandoned, dark shopping galleria beneath a 78-storey glass skyscraper built in 2015, also has its entrance near, as well as the Yonge subway station. The part that borders Yonge St is actually very Tokyo like. To see more pictures of how spectacular Yonge-Dundas Square looks after dark, visit the section Toronto by night. |
