Östermalm

Östermalm is situated just to the east of Norrmalm, but can actually be counted as a part of the city center. Many of Stockholm´s main streets, hotels and famous squares are located here. Östermalm also has a small boat harbour at Strandvägen, where you also find the famous Grand hotel. Stureplan is famous for its vibrant nighlife and snobbish atmosphere.

 

STUREPLAN:

Stureplan is a busy and popular square in the intersection Birger Jarlsgatan/Sturegatan/Kungsgatan. It is famous for its vibrant nighlife for celebrities and the upper class, clubs like Sturecompagniet and Spy bar, and the upscale shopping galleria Sturegallerian.

Sturegallerian is a fancy shopping galleria with upmarket brand stores and restaurants. It has several atriums in vintage style, like this light and beautiful one.

Kungaliga Dramatiska Teatern (Royal Dramatic Theatre), locally called "Dramaten", is situated at the border between Östermalm and Norrmalm, at Nybroplan in the intersection Strandvägen/Birger Jarlsgatan, opposite Berzelli park. The current building was completed in 1908 and renovated in 2007. It has a capacity of 1500 people on 6 different stages. Carl Milles has made the theatrical decorations and Fredrik Liljekvist designed the building.

Grand Hôtel, the most exclusive hotel in Scandinavia. This famous 5 star hotel is situated at Södra Blasieholmshamnen on Östermalm. It has 368 rooms and openedn 1874.

STRANDVÄGEN:

Strandvägen, is the harbour road on the south banks of Östermalm, opposite Gamla Stan. Here you find some of Stockholm's most wellknown hotels.

Vasastaden

Vasataden, or just Vastastan, is a district in central Stockholm, just west of Östermalm, north of Norrmalm, north of Kungsholmen and bordering the city of Solna to the North. It has a residential feeling and is mostly famous for the Municipal Library, Vasaparken, Odenkyrkan and Odenplan.


Stadsbiblioteket, Stockholm´s municipal library, was designed by Gunnar Asplund. It is not very large, but its exterior is classic and elegant.
