Gröna Lund
GRÖNA LUND, DJURGÅRDEN, GHOST, CONCERT
The same eveing I arrived in Stockholm from my visit to Södertälje, I took a ride to Gröna Lund by the ferry from Gamla Stan, to attend to a rock concert (Ghost). The ferry is small but takes a log of passengers and is part of the local public transport system (free if you have the metro card). Gröna Lund (Green Grove) is situated on the small and tranquil island Djurgården, that also is connected by Östermalm by a bridge, and has several other attractions. Gröna Lund, locally dubbed "Grönan", is the most famous amusement park in Stockholm and the oldest one in Sweden, it openend in 1883. There are several popular attractions, like rollercoasters,a ghost train and fall towers. There are also many restaurants, from fast food to expensive Tyrolian food. Gröna Lund is situated on two levels, very close to the water and at night, when I visited, there are neon lights everywhere, it has a bit of Vegas feeling. It hosts about 1.2 million visitors a year. Most of the structues in the park are old residential buildings from the 19th century. |
