San Salvador by night
- West part, Salvador del Mundi, La Pampa el Volcan, Quetzaltepec, Santa Tecla,
Los Planes Night market
San Salvador is nicely illuminated at night. There are ads that announce that the city is 100% illuminated, all over San Salvador (not an obvious thing in Central America). Some monuments, like the National Monument, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Mormon Temple are beautifully illuminated after dark. There are also many, many very large billboards with advertizement along the roads all over the city. San Salvador is considered the entertainment capital of the whole Central America. Most night clubs are concentrated to Zona Rosa, the safest area in the city. Due to the high crime rate, it is highly recommended to not walk anywhere after dark, or to use public buses, take the car or a taxi!
Bands like Iron Maiden and Megadeth played in the Magico Gonzalez Stadium the same summer as we visited.
La Pampa el Volcan is an upscale restaurant, high up in the mountains, near the top of the Quetzaltepec volcano in the Santa Tecla suburb that offer nice views of Santa Tecla and San Salvador.
In the mountains above San Salvador, there is a village called Los Planes (de Renderos), with a night market that is a popular place to go in the evenings. Here you can buy special El Salvadorian sweet alcohol drinks for just one dollar, as well as handmade art, paintings, shells and other souvenirs. From the viewing terraces there are great views of San Salvador. Many restaurants (especially pupuserias) and nightclubs can be found in the area.Be prepared for huge traffic jam when going there on weekends! La Puerta del Diablo in Los Planes is the highest point in San Salvador.
