City Center

CENTRAL, WEENA, HOFPLEIN

The area around Rotterdam Centraal (central station) is very modern. Here you can find almost only new, futuristic buildings. The street Weena, that goes from the central station to Hofplein, has many skyscrapers and other modern office buildings. Some of the buildings are among the tallest in the country.

Gebouwe Delftse Poort, designed by Abe Bonnema, and Milenniumtoren, designed by WZMH Architects, at Stationsplein near the station. The 2 tallest buildings in the city center and the Netherland's tallest until 2005.

Gebouw Delftse Poort from 1992. For 18 years it was Rotterdam’s tallest, now 4th. But it is still the tallest in downtown. It is 151m to the roof.

Police cars outside the Vroom & Dreesmann, a large department store after a power failure. I bought some cookies there before the power failure.

It was weird to see all stores closing down already at 5 o´clock, I wondered why! It was because of a power failure. The trams worked though.
