Greenwich Village Greenwich Village, or just The Village, is problably the most picturesque and cozy district of Manhattan with small scale green streets with typical New York town houses. It is idealically situated between Lower Manhattan and Midtown. It is still nice, but have been heavily gentrificated and commercialized since my last visit in 1998. The alternative part that is left is mostly concentrated around Sheridan Square. Washington Square Park with its arch is a nice and popular park. The name Greenwich Village comes from the Dutch name Groenwijck (Green district) and not from Greenwich in London. Greenwich Village is bordering East Village and West Village, that also are included on this page. However, it is not explained exactly where the photos are taken since it is hard to figure out the boundaries between the different villages. Many of the Greenwich Village can be found in the New York by night section. |
