CityLife Shopping District is an area South of central Milan, North of San Siro Stadium. It was used to be the historic exhibition area and has been transformed into an ultarmodern business, shopping, residential and conference district. The centerpiece is Tre Torri (Three Towers), three glass skyscrapers; Allianz Tower, or "Il Dritto" that has 50 floors and was built in 2015 is the tallest building in Italy to roof height (209m, but UniCredit Tower has a spire that is taller), the twisted Generali Tower (2nd tallest in Italy to roof height, 177m, 44 floors, 2018) and Il Curvo (3rd tallest, 177m, built 2018) that is a curved tower. Surrounding the tower is the posh and ultramodern CityLife Shopping District, that is a mall that is both indoors and outdoors. It has nice terraces on a square, Piazza Tre Torri, with views and greenery. In the area also very modern residential buildings have been constructed lately. The buildings have been designed by the famous architects Zaha Hadid, Arata Isozaki and Daniel Libeskind. The MiCo Milano Convention Centre has been redesigned by Mario Bellini in a futuristic way and is one of the conference centers in the world. It has one room with seating for 4,000 and another for 2,000 plus an Auditorium that seats 1,500, There is also a large park, CityLife Park, in the residential area. During our first visit in 2009 most of the skyscrapers in Milan were not built yet, Pirelli Tower from 1958 stood alone. During our short visit in 2023 there was 23 skyscrapers over 100m tall, 6 over 150m. |
