To reach the Upper Town (Ville Haute), you can take a glass elevator (with glass floor!) from Pfaffenthal. On top there is an observation deck that hang out from the rock, also with glass floor. In Ville Haute you can walk along the spectacular Walls of the Corniche (le Chemin de la Corniche) in Luxembourg City have been called "the most beautiful balcony in Europe" and runs above the river Alzette. Along the corniche is greenery and beautiful colourful historical buildings. There are several viewpoints where you can enjoy Luxembourg's dramatic landscape and architecture; the Saint-Esprit plateau is one of them, where the Judiciary City (court of justice complex) is.There are also spectacular views from the elevated roads, and from the bridges Pont Adolphe (a 153m long double decked arch bridge from 1903) and La Passerelle (a 290m long bridge connecting Blvd Franklin D Roosevelt from 1861, 45m above the valley) . Near the latter bridge is the modernist Monument of Solidarity. Underneath the steep rocks of Upper Town is Parc de la Pétrusse. Viaduct Pfaffenthal is an old train viaduct.
Casemates du Bock, is a 21-kilometer network of underground passages hewn from solid rock underneath the Upper Town, beautifully illuminated inside. They were unfortunately closed for the day when I reached them. Casemates de la Pétrusse is another underground passage.
The most prominent landmarks of Upper Town are the Nôtre-Dame (Luxembourg's most grandiose church) and Michaelskirche. In the Lower Town it is the church St John in the Grund and the adjancent historical Abbey of Neumünster. Kirchberg business district is also visible, even though these modern highrises that are Luxembourg's tallest look shorter from afar.
