New Territories - Lantau Island, Tsuen Wan, Tung Chung, Stonecutters Bridge
New Territories is the largest of HK:s 3 main regions. It is a peninsula, situated to the North of Kowloon, and to the South Chinese border, that also includes about 200 islands. It l consists mainly of residential apartments, highways, shopping malls, parks and slums. There are not many sights here. At Tsuen Wan Bay you will find the 80-storey Nina Tower and lots of residential highrises. It includes Lantau Island and the Islands district.
Lantau Island is a large island in New Territories to the West of central Hong Kong. It is the largest island in Hong Kong. The new airport Chep Lak Kok is situated right next to it and it's attractions include Hong Kong Disneyland, Ngong Ping 360 cable cars and the Great Buddha Statue. It has been developed with residential areas recently, such as Tung Chung new town.
The Ngong Ping 360 cable cars go high above the mountains of Lantau Island, and above the sea, towards the Big Buddha Statue (Tian Tan Buddha), one of the world's largest golden Buddha statues, that sits on a high mountain.
Unfortunately we missed this attraction that we really looked forward to! We skipped going there for more then a week due to bad weather and fog. Last day in HK we decided to give it a try again, but we were told in the ticket counter that the statue was closed for the day and not visible from the spot of the foot. So we decided it wasn't worth the about 250HK$ to go there.
