Chek Lap Kok - Hong Kong International AirportHong Kong International Airport, also known as Chek Lap Kok, was built on an island made by reclaimed land, just outside Lantau Island, in 1998. The purpose was to replace Kai Tak Airport on Kowloon, that was too close to residential buildings and had too little space for expansion. It is one of the busiest airports in Asia, and has one of the world's largest terminal buildings, Terminal 1. It is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific and other HK airlines. More then 100 airlines operate to 180 cities all over the world. Chek Lap Kok covers an area of 1 255 hectares and has 66 boarding gates. I have visited Chek Lap Kok in 2015, where we flew with the Russian airline Aeroflot via Moscow from Copenhagen to visit Hong Kong, and by accident in 2018 after a missed flight. In May 2018 we were heading to Tokyo, but we missed the flight from Helsinki to Tokyo after a long delay because of problems with the air condition on the flight from Copenhagen to Helsinki. So the short stay in Hong Kong in 2018 was unplanned, but that opened a possiblity for me to take more photos of the airport. |
