Världskulturmuséet (Museum of World Culture)-Evenemangsstråket, Heden district
Världskulturmuséet (The Museum of World Culture) opened in 2004 in the Heden district, at Södra Vägen right next to Universeum and Liseberg. The building is a very large, boxy modernist museum building, with a much more interesting interior. Inside there is a multi-storey atrium with large glass walls that looks out on mountains and woods.A large stairway leads up to a coffeeshop. The building is situated on a rock, and glass enclosed elevators connect the floors. The building was designed by a French-Cuban-English couple at Brisac Gonzalez Architects. The museum has temporary exhibitions with video displays, permanent objects from around the world and a special department for children, that is half playground, half an exhibition about foreign objects such as sculptures and music instruments. The Museum of World Culture has about 227 000 visitors annually. |
