Costa Blanca is part of the Mediterranean coast of Southeastern Spain. Costa Blanca literally means "white coast" and features 200km of coast. The name was invented by Brittish European Airways in 1957. It has one of the most beautiful settings in Europe, with nice beaches and beautiful cities surrounded by mountains. Alicante is the province that takes up the most part of the regione, and is the 4th most populous province in Spain. Alicante is the largest city on Costa Blanca. Benidorm has an impressive skyline with tall skyscrapers, that can be see from large parts of the regione. Due to the mild climate there are many expats from Northern Europe, especially UK, Germany and Scandinavia.

MY EXPERIENCE:

In February 2016 we visited Alicante, Benidorm, Elche, Calpe, Altea, El Campello and Villajoyosa. We also visited the mountains and the beautiful caves Cuevas de Canelobre. All places we visited are represented by it's own pages, just click on the thumbs above the text.

After visiting Costa Blanca we travelled southwards to Murcia, where we stayed for one day, and then Northwards to Valencia, Spain's 3rd largest city. It is situated in the province of Valencia, and we stayed there for 3 days and left our rental car. Before the last day we took the train back to Alicante, where we had a Norwegian flight to catch the day after.

Originally we had vague plans to visit Cartagena (about 200 000 inhabitnants, Murcia province) and Guadeleste (small village in Alicante) but we chosed to enjoy the places longer instead. We didn't visit Torreviejo and Xabia either.

Since it was low season, the weather was colder about 12-23 degrees C daytime, partly cloudy but mostly sunny, but that is really ok for a Scandinavian even if it's not bathing weather exactly. Perfect weather to enjoy architecture, nature and other sightseeing. And the prices are much lower during low season, you can easily find 4 star hotels for really good prices! Since we rented a car, a new Ford Focus, we were able to see very much. A highly enjoyable trip!
