Views from the canal boat
NYHAVN, CANALS, HARBOUR, CHRISTIANSHAVN, OPERAEN, OLD TOWN ETC

We went on a canal boat that left from the cozy Nyhavn harbour in the city center.

It is highly recommended since it offers views of Copenhagen's canals, the harbour and famous monuments like the Little Mermaid, historic ships and the temoporary sand sculptures. It goes through different districts like Nyhavn, Christianshavn, Osterbro, Slodsholmen and the Old Town and it also offers unique views and a guided tour of architectural sights like the new Opera house, the spiral top of Vor Frelsers Kirke, other churches, Maersk HQ, the Black Diamond library, Amalienborg Royal Castle and Christiansborg Castle.

The canal boats depart from Nyhavn, a cozy neighbourhood next to the Old Town with pubs and nice old buildings.

There are many nice boats in the Nyhavn port, like this fire ship to the right.

Det Kongelige Teater Skuespilhus (The Royal Theater's Actor Building) near Nyhavn was drawn by Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkitekter, and completed in 2007.

The Opera House was completed as late as in 2005 (here seen from the canal boat). It was financed by Maersk. It is situated right opposite Amalienborg Castle, on the island called Holmen.

Operaen, the new opera house is situated right next to the water in the port.

"Den Sorte Diamant" (The Black Diamond) is the nick name of the large modern extention of the Royal Danish Library of Copenhagen. The old part wing is the red brick building to the left of it, and the modern black glass box is integrated into this part. The modern building was completed in 1999 on the waterfront of Slotsholmen, a small island in the city center.
