Brussels Airport
BRUSSEL-ZAVENTEM / BRUXELLES NATIONAL

Brussels Airport (BRU) is Belgium's largest and most important airport, dating back from 1940. The current version of the airport was inaugurated in 1958, just in time for the world fair. It is situated to the North of the city, partially in Zaventem, Steenokkerzeel and Diegem - Flemish areas. About 13 passengers visit the airport annually, making it Europe's 25th busiest airport. It is also the world's most noise-polluting.

There is only one terminal, but it is very big and has two departure halls. It looks very modern, but it is also very long and rectangular in shape so it can be a pain to get from one side to the other; endless paths leads you to the luggage hall. Despite that it tops the list of best airports in the world several years. The airport has a lot of stores and restaurants and adjancent hotels just like most other international airports. It also has places of worship for five religions! The national airline Sabena went bankrupt in 2002, now the most common airline is Brussels Airlines.

We arrived at the airport with Brussels Airlines flight from Copenhagen. Then we took the train directly to central Brussels, but they gave us wrong info in the information desk so we had to change trains at the Central station, instead of going directly to the Luxembourg station. On the way home we took the bus directly from Antwerp, that is only about 30 minutes North of Brussels Airport and because of Belgium's small size it serves large parts of the country. The reason we took the bus instead of the train, was because there was a train strike that started just a few hours before we were about to go to the airport, making us almost missing the flight!

Arriving at Brussels Airport with the bus from Antwerp. We were really in a hurry at this moment, because of the train strike! In the distance you can see the Sheraton Hotel.

Arriving at Brussels Airport with the flight from Copenhagen. There is only one, really huge terminal. It is so long that you cannot see the end of it while standing on the other side.

The large and extremely long terminal seen from the walkway to the plane.

An atrium in the terminal. The signs that lead to the luggage hall are a bit confusing.
