Brighton City Center - Royal Pavilion and Gardens, Victoria Gardens- Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Brighton Dome, Valley Gardens, Old Steine, Grand Parade, Marlborough PlaceThe Royal Pavilion is the most famous building in Brighton's city center, probably in the whole Brighton. It is a former royal residence built in oriental style, surrounded by gardens. It was constructed 1787-1823 and is Grade I listed, used as a royal seaside retreat until the city of Brighton bought it in 1850. The extra-ordinary architecture styles was popular in India at the time and it was designed by John Nash. The gardens are a popular place to relax and sit down for a while, for example students, dog owners and tourists. There is a music room with a very beautiful ceiling inside. In the gardens is also the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, built in a similar oriental style. This art museum was just about to close for the day when we visited Brighton. Brighton War Monument, Victorian fountain, Mazda fountain and an obelisque are some of the monuments that can be found in this area. King and Queen is a pub in a typical British half-timbered house. |
