Bonn skyline and Rhine promenade
- Post Tower, UN Hochhaus, Villa Hammerschmidt, Wilhelm-Spiritius-Ufer, Kennedy Bridge, Hilton
In the South part of the city is the district Gronau and Museumsmile, where you find many large museums. You can walk along the river Rhine (Rhein), along a promenade from the city center to Gronau, which I did in the morning. The promenade changes name several times
North of Bonn, Rhine flows further through Cologne and Düsseldorf. On the East sie of Rhine is the large Beuel district.
Post Tower, a curved glass building designed by Murphy/Jahn is a landmark of Bonn and is situated in this part, from 2002. It is at 163m the tallest skyscraper of the Rhine-Ruhr metro area. Next to it is the UN-Hochhaus from 1969, the 2nd tallest building and the landmark of United Nations area. Neuer Kanzlerplatz, 3rd tallest (102m), currently u/c in the area during our visit (2022). These three form a little skyline in South Bonn. Palais Schaumburg was the residence of the German chancellor 1949-1976. Villa Hammerschmidt, that can be seen from the Rhine promenade, was the primary official seat and primary official residence of the German president 1954-1994. The neo-classical residence was built in 1868 and is also called "the White House of Bonn" and a symbol of West Germany.
There is also a large Japanese Garden, part of the very large Rheinaue Park, facing River Rhine, in South Bonn.
