Haus der Geschichte (House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany) is situated along Willy-Brandt-Allee in the Museum Mile (Museummeile), the former West Germany's government district, where Bonn's largest most importan museums are. As a former capital Bonn has many museums. Haus der Geschichte is one of Germany's most popular museums, with around one million visitors a year. It is situated in a very modern building from 1994. It tells the story of Germany's history, present och future.
There are many full scale models, You can see a 50s bar, a Berlin section with a Trabant, VWs, a tank, a military jeep, or watch the former West Germany's first chancellor, Konrad Adenauer's section with his Mercedes 300 "Adenauer" and several train wagons, furnished as
they were during his period. Adenauer was chancelled 1940-63. Posters, clothes etc make it even more interesting. And there is a part about the future, and one about space, with customes, flags have been in space! You can also see a rusty part of what once was the WTC in New York, before 9/11! Architecture models, toys, gas tanks, planet models can also be found. The museum also has a green courtyard with a female coppar sculpture.
The museum is a very interesting, large and extensive museum to visit and the entrance is free.
