Station Area, the new town:
The area around the large central station is busy, not very beautiful and mostly contain modernist box buildings. But there are also a few modern highrises that stand out, like the Rabobank, the tallest building in Utrecht. There is a really huge mall in the area as well.
Utrecht Central Station is very large and modern. It takes only 25 minutes to Amsterdam's outskirts from the station! There is a large shopping center, Hooh Catharijne, connected to the station, that has about 160 stores.
Staadskontoor, under construction. The new City Council will be Utrecht’s 2nd tallest building when completed in 2013 (92m).
A statue outside the station.
There are many bikes in Utrecht’s city center. The 20-storey building to the right is Hojel City Center.
Entrance to the station and Hoog Catharijne mall with the new City Council u/c l in the background.
There are many office buildings next to the station.
Rabobank Bestuurscentrum, Utrecht’s tallest building. It is 105m tall and was built in 2011.
To take this picture of Rabobank I had to walk to the backside in the heat on a dusty construction place.
Muziekpaleis (Music Palace) under construction.
Lange Viestraat, towards the old town from the station.
De Bijenkorf, large department store.
De Planeet, a shopping galleria opposite that has an exterior in strong blue colour.
De Inktpot, Netherland’s largest brick building. It was built as the HQ for the railway company.

Older buildings close to the station.
