Zona Rosa, San Benito, Mejicanos- District 3, West San Salvador: Torre Cuscatlan, statues, roads etcThe West part is the safest and richest part of the city; especially the popular Zona Rosa neighbourhood, where you find most good hotels, entertainment, restaurants and night clubs. In Zona Rosa, part of the San Benito neighbourhood, you find some of the most prestigous hotels of El Salvador like Sheraton Presidente and Barceló (formerly Hilton Princess). There is a notable, very large coppar sculpture of a mermaid that had been temporarily placed at the side of the highway, together with some kind of freedom sculpture, during our visit. Torre Cuscatlan, a significant glass bank skyscraper that was tallest building in El Salvador from 1989-2008, is also situated in the West part. It has 19 floors and is 79m tall, enough to be a skyscraper in El Salvador. Museo de Arte de El Salvador, a modern art museum is also in Zona Rosa. Many middle class neighbourhoods with tons of lowrise private residences are situated in the West part. There are also many fastfood fastfood restaurants in the West part, Mister Donut is the most popular, and serves typical El Salvadorian (fast) food, and there are no less then 4 chains that are specialized in chicken, Pollo Campello is the largest one. Mc Donald's, Burger King will be found in every corner. The visit to Walmart in the suburb Mejicanos was the first time visiting a branch of this huge American hypermarket chain for us. Many of the largest and best malls are situated in the West part. El Escalón with Torre Futura and Galerias and Multiplaza are represented on separate pages.
