Taipa Island is an island 2.5km to the South of the peninsula, conncted by 3 beautiful bridges. The latest hotel/casino projects have been developed here, like the Venetian, that is the world's largest hotel and casino and was built in 2007, and Galaxy, also one of the largest with 2200 rooms and opened in 2011, it consist of the hotels, Galaxy, Okura, Banyan Tree, JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton. The 6 cupolas of the hotel towers are all of 24 karat gold, there is a 3D cinema, wishing crystals, a fortune diamoand and the world's largest laser show! City of Dreams is a new projects that consist of a number of large hotels, Sands, Conrad, the world's largest Sheraton, the world's largest Holiday Inn, Grand Hyatt and Hard Rock Hotel. The center of the new area is the Cotai Strip, that will become Macao's answer to Las Vegas "The Strip". The Portugese occupied the island in 1851. On the evening of our daytrip we took a taxi to the island via the Macau-Taipa Bridge, mostly to visit Venetian, that is themed around the city of Venice, Italy. The Venetian has 7000 rooms and is even larger then the hotel in Las Vegas it was modeled after! Inside the hotel you can find Venetian canals with gondolas, a fake sky, shows, a large concert halls, shopping malls with everyting from McDonald's to H&M, restraurants and much more, everything in a luxorious atmosphere with huge chandeliers, buildings inside the building and stairs. There is also a tall copy of the Campinile tower in Venice.A Four Seasons hotel with its own shopping galleria is located just next to the Venetian.The Venetian is one of the world's largest buildings and were we spent most of the time on Taipa Island.
