Guangzhou is a city that never sleeps, and it really comes alive at night with it's illuminated buildings. Even in the middle of the night, 24 hours a day, people and cars trafficate the streets and metro systems. On the skyline, that can best be seen from Pearl River, you can behold skyscrapers and towers that frequently shift colours at night. Especially Canton Tower, the tallest structure in Guangzhou, has fancy shifting colours. Shamian Island is a nice island with illuminated buildings at night. The buildings in the brand new CBD Zhujiang New Town are especially interesting to look at after dark; IFC with it's diagonal lines, the grandstand from Asian Games, the Provincial Museum and more. On Pearl River, the ships are illuminated with neon lights, and even shifts colours. In the central districts ofTianhe and Yuexi, shopping malls and cinema complexes have neon lights in different colours.
