Yuexiu district
- Martyr's Park, Yuexiu Park, People's Park, Exchange Park
Yuexiu district is the commercial, political, educational and cultural centre of Guangdong. It is situated to the West of Tianhe and East of Liwan and is the old part of Guangzhou's city center, where you find many historical buildings, and buildings in more traditional style, especially along Zhongshan Road and aroudn People's Park and Exchange Square. In Yuexiu you will find the old part with attractions like Sacred Heart Cathedral, Six Banyan Trees (that we didn't manage to find), Shangxiajiu pedestrian street (we didn't find that either), the large, hilly and beautiful Yuexiu Park, Martyr's Park, People's Park and more.
There are also many skyscrapers, shopping malls and luxury hotels. Just south of Yuexiu district, Pearl River, China's 3rd longest river, is flowing. Bridges connect it with Haizhu district. Here you find many nice illuminated river boats, great bridges and amazing views of the skyline. The Yuexiu district was established in 1960 and expanded a lot in 2005.Yuexiu is the historic center of the former Nanyue kingdom, that was established 204 B.C.
