Copenhagen City Hall - Københavns Rådhus- Rådhuspladsen, City Center
The building, Copenhagen's 3rd city hall, was designed by Martin Nyrop in the National Romantic style, inspired by the Siena City Hall in Italy. Around the corridors and stairways of marble and gold, you find beautiful paintings of Copenhagen, religious paintings, chandeliers and statues of former mayors. There is also a large outdoor courtyard inside the Town Hall building, that features a fountain. Near the entrance, there is a permanent exhibition about Jens Olsen's world clock and other advanced clocks that are on display. Despite I have passed by the Town Hall hundreds of times when visiting Copenhagen, I never visited the interior until Septeber 2016. The reason is simply that I didn't think it was possible to go inside! There was no security check, only a few guards, and I was able to walk around the building freely. There is also a tour that takes you up to the tower with views of Copenhagen, for only 30dkr, but that I will spare to next time. |
